STOCKHOLM (Reuter): Swedish Telecoms group LM Ericsson AB said
yesterday it had won an Indonesian contract to supply DRA 1900
equipment, Ericsson's new radio access system based on the DECT
standard.
The order is from PT Pramindo Ikat Nusantara, a joint venture
between PT Astratel Nusantara of Indonesia-based Astra Group, and
France Telecom's Cable et Radio and two local companies, Ericsson
said in a statement.
In the first phase a commercial pilot system will be installed
in the Binjai area near Medan, North Sumatra.
"Given successful evaluation of the project, a contract for a
substantial amount of DECT radio access lines is expected to be
formalized during the second half of 1996," Ericsson added.
LM Ericsson AB also said it is close to winning a US$215
million order to supply mobile phone systems to an Asia joint
venture, the Wall Street Journal (WSJ) said yesterday.
The joint venture -- Asia Cellular Satellite System (ACeS) --
is "close to awarding" the contract to design and build some
250,000 handsets for a satellite-based system, one of three
planned to cover Asia, the paper said.
ACeS is a joint venture between Philippine Long Distance
Telephone Co, the Indonesian Pasifik Satelit Nusantara, and
Jasmine International Plc of Thailand.
