Erdogan Urges US-Iran Agreement Not Be Disrupted

Türkiye will continue its efforts to achieve lasting peace.

Ankara (ANTARA) - Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan has urged that actions and provocations which could disrupt the agreement reached between the United States and Iran must be prevented.

Erdogan made the remarks during a meeting with German Chancellor Friedrich Merz in Ankara, Türkiye.

“We need to be careful to prevent actions and provocations that could damage the agreement between Iran and the United States. Türkiye will continue its efforts to achieve lasting peace,” Erdogan said, as quoted by the Turkish presidency.

Earlier, in the early hours of Wednesday (8/7), US forces launched a series of attacks on Iran. The US Central Command (CENTCOM) claimed the military operation was carried out in retaliation for attacks launched by Iran against commercial vessels in the Strait of Hormuz.

US President Donald Trump also said the ceasefire with Iran was no longer in effect.

Iran accused the US of violating their memorandum of understanding and launched retaliatory attacks on US bases in Bahrain and Kuwait.

According to the Turkish presidency, the meeting between Erdogan and Merz addressed bilateral relations between Türkiye and Germany, as well as various current regional and international issues.
