Erdogan Urges US-Iran Agreement Not Be Disrupted

President Recep Tayyip Erdogan has called for actions and provocations that could disrupt the agreement between the United States and Iran to be prevented. Erdogan made the statement during a meeting with German Chancellor Friedrich Merz in Ankara. “We need to be careful to prevent actions and provocations that could damage the agreement between Iran and the United States. Turkiye will continue to strive for sustainable peace,” Erdogan said, as quoted by the presidential office. Earlier, on Wednesday morning, US forces launched a series of strikes on Iran. US Central Command (CENTCOM) claimed the military operation was in retaliation for Iranian attacks on commercial vessels in the Strait of Hormuz. US President Donald Trump also stated that the ceasefire with Iran was no longer in effect. Iran accused the US of violating their memorandum of understanding and launched retaliatory strikes against US bases in Bahrain and Kuwait. According to the Turkish Presidential Office, the meeting between Erdogan and Merz covered bilateral relations between Turkiye and Germany, as well as various current regional and international issues.
