Erdogan urges Trump to continue negotiations with Iran

Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan has urged US President Donald Trump to maximise diplomacy in order to reduce tensions between the United States and Iran by continuing negotiations.

“Erdogan noted the importance of maximising diplomacy in addressing the tensions between Iran and the US, expressed hope for the continuation of negotiations, and stated that Turkiye would continue to support efforts to achieve peace,” read a statement from the Turkish presidential administration on Tuesday.

The statement was made by Erdogan during a telephone conversation with Trump in which they discussed bilateral relations, as well as regional and global developments.

The Turkish leader also said that Ankara, together with Pakistan and Saudi Arabia, had demonstrated a firm stance in ensuring regional stability and security within the framework of a joint defence agreement signed by the three countries.

Erdogan also discussed the situation in the Gaza Strip. As the parties seek to move to the second phase of the peace process in Gaza, the actions of the Israeli authorities against Palestinians have intensified.

He stressed that Ankara would continue to support efforts to build long-term peace in the region and measures to rebuild the Gaza Strip.
