Erdogan: Israel Attempting to Remove Palestine from Global Agenda

Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan said on Wednesday (12/8) that Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu is seeking to exploit chaos and new conflicts in the region to remove the Palestinian issue from the international agenda.

Earlier that day, Erdogan held talks with Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas in Ankara.

“The goal of the Netanyahu government is to exploit the chaos and new conflicts in the region to remove Palestine from the shared humanitarian agenda,” Erdogan said after the meeting, as quoted by the presidential office.

He added that Israel would not achieve its goal, and that the Palestinian issue would continue to remain a priority.

Turkey stands firmly with Palestine in its struggle against attacks, violations and provocations targeting holy sites in Palestinian territory, including the Al-Aqsa Mosque in Jerusalem and the Ibrahimi Mosque in Hebron.

“Whatever they do, they will not succeed. The harder they try to destroy, the stronger the Palestinian struggle grows in the hearts of the people,” the Turkish president said.

Jordanian Foreign Minister Ayman Safadi said Israel’s actions in the region are pushing the Middle East towards a religiously charged conflict. Safadi made the remarks at a ministerial-level meeting attended by Arab and Muslim countries to support Jerusalem and its holy sites.
