Erasmus Huis to show 'Oeroeg'

JAKARTA (JP): Erasmus Huis will present films produced by Hans Hylkema, best-known in this country for his film entitled Oeroeg.

The movie Oeroeg is open for public viewing on Saturday at the Erasmus Huis auditorium, on Jl. H.R. Rasuna Said in South Jakarta, running from 11:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m.

Oeroeg is the name of an Indonesian boy, the son of a plantation foreman, who builds a close friendship with the son of the Dutch plantation owner. The story highlights the different social standings of the two boys, who were born on the same day.

As they grow up amid the emerging wave of nationalist fervor, their friendship becomes strained as they find themselves on opposite sides.

Producer Hans Hylkema will be present at the screening, which will also feature another of his films The Kingmaker Connection. --JP
