Epstein Files Threaten Kevin Warsh's Path to Fed Chairmanship
Kevin Warsh, US President Donald Trump’s preferred candidate, is encountering serious hurdles in his bid to assume the role of Chair of the US central bank, the Federal Reserve (the Fed). Amid a nomination process that has yet to receive confirmation from the Senate, his name has been implicated in documents related to the Jeffrey Epstein case, drawing fresh attention from political circles in Washington.
Nearly two months after President Donald Trump announced Warsh’s nomination, the Senate has yet to schedule a confirmation hearing. Yet, the current Fed Chair, Jerome Powell’s term, is set to expire in just two months.
Democratic Party Senator Elizabeth Warren has sent a letter to Warsh requesting a detailed explanation of his relationship with Jeffrey Epstein. This request arose following the US Department of Justice’s release of several emails indicating that Warsh and his wife, Jane Lauder, were invited to events associated with Epstein.
Some events allegedly attended by Warsh include a 2010 Christmas celebration in St. Barthélemy and a dinner in New York. The guest list for that dinner included Epstein, Warsh, Lauder, Trump along with his wife Melania, and several of the president’s children.
However, from the series of emails released in January, it cannot yet be confirmed who actually attended those events. Trump himself has consistently denied any wrongdoing, and his appearance in the documents does not necessarily indicate involvement in illegal activities.
“When the Senate considers your nomination as Fed Chair, it is crucial for Congress and the public to fully understand the extent of your interactions or relationship with Jeffrey Epstein,” Warren wrote in the letter to Warsh, quoted from CNN Business, Wednesday, 26 March 2026.
Warren also requested that Warsh explain whether he attended those events or other meetings involving Epstein or his associate, Ghislaine Maxwell. Additionally, she demanded records of any communications that may have occurred between Warsh and the two individuals.
The Senate Banking Committee, led by Warren as the most senior Democratic member, has the authority to assess a candidate’s suitability before it is put to a full Senate vote.
