Enzyme producer to build center

BOGOR, West Java: The Bogor Institute of Agriculture (IPB) and
the San Diego-based Diversa Corp signed a cooperation agreement
on bioprospecting.

Under the agreement, Diversa, an enzyme manufacturer, will
build a center for microbial diversity, provide equipment and
train researchers.

In turn, the company will have the right to use enzymes
developed by the institute for commercial purposes after paying
royalties.

The raw materials for the enzymes will be taken from
microorganisms found in barren volcanoes and tropical forests.
