Envoy recalled after alleged rape

KUALA LUMPUR (DPA): Croatia recalled its ambassador to
Malaysia yesterday following a civil law suit filed the day
before in Kuala Lumpur by a 27-year-old Filipina maid alleging
that she was raped and molested by the man over a five-month
period.

The Foreign Ministry in Zagreb announced officially yesterday
that after an investigation "appropriate measures" would be
taken.

Maria Fe Ocampo, who filed her writ at the Shah Alam High
Court through her lawyer, Karpal Singh, said she was a virgin
whose life has been ruined and scarred because of the rapes.

She is seeking damages, costs and any other relief which the
court deems fit against the 46-year-old ambassador, who had
employed her in April as a live-in maid together with her mother,
Saturnina Talisic.

Ocampo alleged that she was first raped by the ambassador four
days after she started working. She says she was also raped on
three separate occasions and molested on Sept. 5 before she and
her mother sought help with the Philippine embassy in Kuala
Lumpur on Sept. 8.
