Environmental Activists Demand Punishment and Licence Revocation for Forest-Burning Corporations

Environmental activists from the Indonesian Forum for the Environment (Walhi) held a demonstration in the Tosari area of Jakarta on Friday (14/8/2026) to highlight the issue of forest and land fires (karhutla). They urged the government to take firm action against corporations proven to have started forest and land fires, demanding both legal punishment and the revocation of their permits. The activists carried posters and conveyed their message that government action should not stop at handling the fires, but must also include prosecuting those responsible. The protest served as a reminder that tackling the disaster requires not only firefighting efforts but also rigorous supervision and law enforcement against the parties accountable.
