Jakarta (ANTARA) - The Minister of Environment (LH), Hanif Faisol Nurofiq, stated that the current national waste management rate stands at 26 percent, a drastic increase compared to 2024.

“Real data on our waste management is currently at 26 percent. This figure is up 16 percent from 2024. The largest contribution comes from serious activities by district/city governments to end open dumping activities at some final disposal sites (TPA),” said the Minister of LH/Head of the Environment Control Agency (BPLH), Hanif, during a working meeting with Commission XII of the House of Representatives (DPR RI) in Jakarta on Monday.

Of that amount, most of the managed waste goes to landfill TPA at 15,189 tonnes per day and is handled by the informal sector at 9,450 tonnes. The remainder is managed through composting facilitation, 3R waste management units (TPS), and waste banks.

“However, if we can end TPA open dumping, and then activate recovery facilities for waste, it is projected that this year we can increase the waste management achievement to 44,000 tonnes per day,” said Hanif.

Thus, the total waste achievement we aim to reach in 2026, at minimum this year, is 57.75 percent of the national target.

Based on the National Medium-Term Development Plan (RPJMN), this year’s waste management target is 63.4 percent.

To close the gap between this year’s target and the achievement, he explained that they will intensify the crackdown on illegal TPAs, especially in major cities.
