Environment Minister: Waste Management at Purabaya Terminal Requires Improvement
Sidoarjo, East Java (ANTARA) - Environment Minister Hanif Faisol Nurofiq has assessed that waste management and sanitation at Terminal Tipe A Purabaya in Sidoarjo, East Java still requires significant improvement.
“Waste management and sanitation at this terminal still needs improvement in our assessment,” said Hanif to the media at Purabaya Terminal in Sidoarjo on Sunday.
During his inspection of the terminal, he stated that a large-capacity terminal such as Purabaya Terminal faces particular challenges in managing cleanliness, especially due to the high mobility of passengers each day, particularly ahead of Lebaran 2026.
Hanif said the Environment Ministry will assign an environmental law enforcement team to conduct detailed mapping and data collection regarding waste management in the terminal area, particularly at Terminal Tipe A Purabaya.
The ministry will also give the terminal operator time to improve the sanitation management system and its supporting facilities.
Additionally, he requested that the number of cleaning staff in the area be increased and waste management facilities be improved, including the provision of waste bins and a more organised waste collection system.
Hanif also assessed that the terminal operator needs to enforce stricter regulations on passengers to ensure discipline in disposing of waste properly.
He expressed hope that in future, large-scale transport facilities such as Purabaya Terminal can meet these standards in order to maintain public comfort.
