Serang (ANTARA) - Environment Minister Hanif Faisol Nurofiq has urged residents of Serang City, Banten, to enhance the waste sorting programme to create better and more sustainable waste management.

Hanif stated that awareness of sorting waste from the household level is a concrete step and initial effort towards better and more sustainable waste management.

Therefore, he suggested that the Banten Provincial Government and Serang City Government continue to promote capacity and sorting facilities for waste within the community.

β€œThe substantive issue of waste processing can only be resolved if the community is disciplined in sorting from the source,” he said.

For the record, Serang City currently generates around 580 to 800 tonnes of waste per day. Of this amount, approximately 419 tonnes of waste per day is transported to the Cilowong TPSA, while the remainder is managed independently at the source level.

This collective action was held as a form of concern for the waste challenges in urban areas.

The activity was also carried out ahead of the signing of a memorandum of understanding (MoU) between the Ministry of Environment and the Serang City Government regarding innovations in processing waste into electrical energy.
