Environment Minister Urges Returnees to Maintain Environmental Standards
Jakarta — Indonesia’s Environment Minister, Hanif Faisol Nurofiq, has called on mudik travellers to maintain environmental standards to ensure safety and comfort for all, particularly at Tanjung Priok Bus Terminal in North Jakarta.
“This is part of the President’s instruction to all government agencies to ensure that mudik operations run optimally,” the Environment Minister said in Jakarta on Tuesday.
He stated that the inspection was conducted to ensure travellers receive comfort during their journeys.
He also emphasised that mudik activities must not create environmental impacts, particularly concerning waste management.
According to him, inspection results showed that cleanliness emerged as a primary concern.
The Environment Minister assessed that waste issues at the terminal area still require swift action.
He requested that supporting facilities be promptly provided by the North Jakarta City Administration.
“This waste problem can actually be prevented. We are asking for facilities to be immediately provided because this is something that must be handled as quickly as possible,” he said.
He also called for strong synergy between the central and regional governments, with the hope that this year’s Lebaran mudik will not only run smoothly.
For this reason, he urged all parties to maintain cleanliness and environmental conservation at major transportation hubs such as Tanjung Priok Terminal.
“We appreciate the cross-sectoral cooperation that has been carried out by the North Jakarta Forkopimko (Coordinating Body for Senior Officials) in providing the best service to the public, particularly mudik travellers,” he said.
