Environment Minister to Adopt Riau Police's Green Policing as National Policy

This was revealed by Jumhur Hidayat during his first working visit to Riau Provincial Police Headquarters, shortly after being inaugurated as Minister of Environment on Tuesday (5/5/2026). “Insha’Allah, I will adopt it as a national policy, thank you, Mr Police Chief. This is excellent; I can imagine if Green Policing happens everywhere, in every institution,” Jumhur stated. Jumhur assessed that the Green Policing concept is an ideal approach because it integrates a sustainable bottom-up method in environmental conservation efforts. Besides law enforcement, the Green Policing concept is seen as a strategic step in building collective awareness, especially among the younger generation. “So I say this is extraordinary; I’m very pleased. I appreciate the top-down and bottom-up approaches. From the bottom, building awareness is very important for Gen-Z through good examples like planting trees and so on; from the top, providing restoration steps for waste conditions and so forth, and only at the end is there repression,” he explained. According to him, this concept is highly ideal and worthy of adoption and development in other regions. “So I think this is something ideal; hopefully, it can run not only here but also in other provinces,” he said. Meanwhile, Riau Police Chief Irjen Pol Herry Heryawan expressed appreciation for the first visit of the Environment Minister, Jumhur Hidayat, to Riau Police Headquarters. According to him, the presence of the Environment Minister strengthens cross-agency synergy in maintaining environmental sustainability. “The presence of the Minister provides very positive new energy to strengthen our commitment to building close collaboration between the central government and local government in safeguarding environmental sustainability,” said Irjen Herry. The Police Chief conveyed the importance of synergy and cross-sector collaboration, including the police, in efforts to maintain and preserve the environment. “Once again, we appreciate the Minister’s commitment to building cross-sector collaboration, including with the police, especially Riau Provincial Police,” he added. “This synergy is very important for us to handle environmental issues in an integrated, systematic, and sustainable manner for a quality living environment for future generations,” he continued.
