Environment Minister Targets Development of 'Green Jobs' in Indonesia

Jakarta (ANTARA) - The Minister of Environment, Moh Jumhur Hidayat, stated that the government is targeting the development of ‘green jobs’—occupations that contribute to environmental preservation—as part of the transition towards a green economy.

According to a statement confirmed from Jakarta on Wednesday, the Minister of Environment and Head of the Environmental Control Agency (BPLH), Jumhur, shared this during a meeting with the Ambassador of Denmark to Indonesia, Sten Frimodt Nielsen, and the Environmental Sector and Circular Economy Advisor of the Danish Embassy, Erika Torres, on Tuesday (2/6).

“Indonesia can learn from Denmark to create green jobs. These jobs arise from all activities within the waste and waste management sectors. Additionally, roles such as carbon credit auditors, carbon analysts, and similar positions also fall under green jobs,” said Jumhur.

He explained that Indonesia possesses significant opportunities to develop green jobs across various sectors related to environmental management, ranging from waste management to the carbon economy. Denmark’s experience is considered a vital reference for accelerating the development of green talent and opening sustainable job opportunities for Indonesia’s younger generation.

During the meeting, the Danish Government offered Indonesia the opportunity to directly study the practices of green job development implemented in their country. Denmark’s experience is viewed as an important lesson for Indonesia in building a green jobs ecosystem capable of generating economic benefits while sustainably addressing environmental challenges.

Following up on this cooperation opportunity, the Ministry of Environment/BPLH will dispatch a team to further study the various programs and green job development models implemented in Denmark. “The Ministry of Environment will meet with competent parties regarding green jobs to examine their programmes and progress,” concluded Jumhur Hidayat.
