Environment Minister Requests Increase in Caringin Market's Waste Processing Capacity to Reduce Build-Up
BANDUNG – Environment Minister/Head of the Environmental Control Agency, Moh Jumhur Hidayat, has requested that the managers of Pasar Caringin increase the waste processing capacity. He stated that this step is intended to prevent waste from accumulating, especially at the end of the week. He noted that the current processing capacity is not yet commensurate with the daily volume generated. Out of approximately 50 tons of waste per day, around 15 tons remain held at the Temporary Waste Collection Site (TPS) in the market and have the potential to pile up at weekends. His side is still observing waste piles in the TPS area and surrounding roads, thus requiring handling through increased processing capacity, improved facilities and infrastructure, and optimisation of resources. Jumhur continued that his side is encouraging waste management at Pasar Caringin in Bandung City to continue providing economic added value for the surrounding community. He appreciated the waste management steps at Pasar Caringin that have been running well. “Good waste management not only solves environmental problems but is also capable of creating economic added value and opening up green jobs for the community,” he said during a visit to Pasar Caringin on Sunday (11/5/2026). He explained that the waste management carried out at Pasar Caringin shows that waste can be processed into useful goods. Therefore, his side supports this management and it can be replicated more widely.
