Environment Minister Promotes Ecotourism, Reminds Businesses to Protect the Environment
Environment Minister Mohammad Jumhur Hidayat is encouraging the development of ecotourism as an economic activity that relies on the preservation of nature. He requested that while licensing for business operators is eased, it must be accompanied by supervision and adherence to environmental regulations.
“Essentially, the government is very serious about promoting eco-tourism, as it is an economic activity that can simultaneously honour the environment. There are concepts such as biodiversity credits and so on,” said Jumlar at Dusun Bambu, West Bandung Regency, on Tuesday (29/09/2026).
Jumhur stated that the Ministry of Environment has collaborated with various parties to involve the business sector in utilising biodiversity potential. According to him, tourism development must proceed alongside efforts to maintain the environmental conditions of the destinations.
“It is not just this, but we will monitor everything to ensure the environment remains protected. In truth, it is by protecting the environment that people become interested in visiting ecotourism sites,” Jumhur asserted.
Jumhur also requested the West Java Provincial Government to simplify the licensing process for ecotourism development. However, he emphasised that such ease of business must still meet provisions regarding environmental restoration.
“But once again, in the context of eco-tourism, all regulations related to environmental restoration must be upheld. Therefore, we will continue to supervise,” said Jumhur.
