Environment Minister: North Jakarta Must Become National Model for Waste Management
Jakarta (ANTARA) — Environment Minister Hanif Faisol Nurofiq has stressed that North Jakarta must become the national model for waste management, requiring the involvement of all parties, particularly the public, in waste sorting and processing.
In a statement confirmed from Jakarta on Tuesday, Environment Minister and Head of the Environmental Management Agency (BPLH) Hanif Faisol Nurofiq reiterated President Prabowo Subianto's directive to carry out corvée — community clean-up activities — as part of the Safe, Healthy, Clean, Beautiful Indonesia (ASRI) Movement.
"Today we continue to carry out corvée, corvée, and more corvée in accordance with the President's directive, including here in North Jakarta," said Hanif.
"North Jakarta generates more than 1,300 tonnes of waste per day, so it needs to be a special concern for all of us, including for residents to manage waste properly from its source," he added.
The remarks were made during an inspection visit to North Jakarta on Tuesday (17 February), where Minister Hanif conducted working visits to the Women Federation Unit Waste Bank on Jalan Marliana, as well as the TPS3R MOA facility in Penjagalan, Penjaringan, North Jakarta, to directly monitor community-based waste management.
Both locations serve as important examples of waste management that involves the community directly, from sorting through to processing.
Minister Hanif also expressed appreciation for the Refuse Derived Fuel (RDF) facility in Rorotan, North Jakarta, as one of the solutions for accelerating waste handling.
"Thankfully, North Jakarta now has an RDF facility in Rorotan as a solution for accelerating waste handling. However, the RDF facility is still receiving criticism from the surrounding community, so it certainly needs our collective attention and support to make improvements going forward," said Minister Hanif.
North Jakarta Mayor Hendra Hidayat, speaking on the same occasion, stated that the North Jakarta City Administration fully supports the movement and will carry out all directives conveyed by the President directly through the Environment Minister and Head of BPLH.
"We naturally also want to make North Jakarta a city that is Safe, Healthy, Clean, and Beautiful, in line with the Indonesia ASRI Movement. We are also grateful for the guidance and direction from the Minister and his team in creating a clean environment in North Jakarta," he said.
