Environment Minister: Golden Era Must Not Overlook Environmental Aspects
JAKARTA (ANTARA) - Environment Minister Jumhur Hidayat stressed that joint efforts between Indonesia and China to build a golden era for both nations must not overlook environmental protection and sustainable development.
He explained that a true economic golden era should not be measured solely by high volumes of investment and infrastructure development, but also by the ability to protect the environment, preserve forests, and maintain air quality.
“A true golden era must also be a green era,” said Environment Minister Jumhur Hidayat at the Indonesia-China Business Forum and the establishment of the Cheung Kong Graduate School of Business (CKGSB) Indonesia Alumni Association in Jakarta on Tuesday.
He stressed that investments in Indonesia can no longer disregard environmental compliance, given global supply chains demanding transparency and good social and environmental governance.
He further stated that Indonesia welcomes clean investments, modern and up-to-date technology, and industries that respect national laws and the Indonesian nation.
The Environment Minister then emphasised the significant benefits Indonesia and China could achieve if both nations optimise their potentials effectively.
“If we combine our strengths appropriately, we can build something truly significant—not just projects or transactions, but a new development model that adds value to the environment,” said Environment Minister Jumhur Hidayat.
Meanwhile, China excels in manufacturing and eco-friendly innovations, such as renewable energy technologies and electric vehicles.
Minister Jumhur also invited foreign partners, particularly CKGSB alumni entrepreneurs active across various industrial sectors, to actively contribute to Indonesia’s five environmental priority agendas.
These five agendas are industrial decarbonisation, circular economy, water management and pollution control, ecosystem restoration and environmental solutions, as well as digital transformation and green governance.
