Environment Minister Hanif Faisol Nurofiq chaired a coordination meeting with Bali Governor Wayan Koster, Badung Regent, Denpasar Mayor, and Bali’s Forkopimda at the Bali Governor’s Office on Thursday, 5 March 2026.

The closed meeting, which lasted two and a half hours, discussed waste management from the upstream or source. As a result, regional governments were asked to socialise waste sorting massively at each household.

‘The key point is how to manage at the source by conducting massive sorting at each household,’ Koster said after the meeting.

Hanif gave the regional heads of government one month to carry out the socialisation.

‘The socialisation should be carried out massively within one month,’ he said.

During the proceedings, Koster was also asked about the certainty of closing the Suwung landfill. He stressed that no decision had yet been made on that matter.

Furthermore, he could not confirm whether the closure of Suwung TPA would occur around April to June as had been reported.

‘Not decided yet. Not yet; just wait,’ he said.
