Environment Minister Demands Improved Waste Facilities at Tanjung Priok Terminal
Jakarta — Indonesia’s Environment Minister Hanif Faisol Nurofiq has requested that Tanjung Priok Terminal management and the North Jakarta Administrative City Government undertake improvements to waste management during his inspection of North Jakarta on Tuesday.
During his inspection of Tanjung Priok Terminal, Environment Minister Hanif toured the facility to assess its readiness for the anticipated surge in passengers undertaking the Eid holiday exodus from the location, including waste management preparedness.
“From our perspective, we must ensure that these activities do not cause significant environmental impacts. Among these, waste is something that can actually be prevented,” said Environment Minister Hanif Faisol Nurofiq.
During the inspection, he also discovered open waste accumulation around Tanjung Priok Terminal and requested North Jakarta Mayor Hendra Hidayat to promptly assist terminal management in undertaking improvements.
This aligns with President Prabowo Subianto’s directive to ensure that travellers can return to their hometowns as comfortably as possible.
Previously, the Ministry of Transportation (Kemenhub) forecast that the peak exodus for the 2026 Eid holiday would occur on Wednesday (18 March), with an estimated movement of 21.97 million people on that day alone.
Nationally, a survey by Kemenhub’s Transportation Policy Agency (Baketrans) indicated that 143.92 million people plan to travel during the Eid holiday period for 1447 Hijriah/2026 Eid.
