The Meranti Police, through the Rangsang Police Sector, carried out a mangrove planting activity at Pantai Gelombang Cinta, Sonde Village, Rangsang Pesisir District, Meranti Islands Regency. Held in observance of Environment Day, the initiative serves as a demonstration of the National Police’s commitment to environmental preservation.

The activity took place on Friday (5/6/2026), led by the Deputy Chief of Rangsang Police, Ipda Dongan M. Manalu, alongside community officers from Sendaur and Kayu Ara villages, and involving members of the Akit indigenous community from Sonde Village.

As part of the programme, Rangsang Police personnel provided socialisation to the local community regarding the importance of nature conservation through tree planting as a concrete step to maintain the ecosystem of the coastal region. The event proceeded with a communal prayer before the planting of mangrove seedlings along the coastline of Pantai Gelombang Cinta.

Speaking on behalf of the Rangsang Police Chief, Deputy Chief Ipda Dongan M. Manalu stated that the ‘Green Policing’ programme is a form of the police’s presence within the community through a humanist and sustainable approach. He emphasised that beyond maintaining public order and security, the police play an active role in environmental conservation.

He noted that mangrove planting offers significant benefits, including preventing coastal abrasion, mitigating the impacts of climate change, maintaining the balance of coastal ecosystems, and supporting efforts to prevent forest and land fires. Furthermore, the existence of mangroves provides both economic and ecological benefits to the local population.

“This activity is a manifestation of policing that is adaptive to modern challenges, particularly in facing the environmental crisis. Through mangrove planting, we hope to provide protection for coastal areas against the threat of abrasion while preserving nature for future generations,” he said.

The Rangsang Police expressed hope that the Green Policing initiative will continue to raise community awareness to collectively protect the environment and utilise natural resources wisely to ensure a sustainable future.
