Environment Day: Jumhur to Rally Thousands in Cibubur
The Ministry of Environment/Environmental Control Agency (KLH/BPLH) is calling on all elements of the nation to move together in commemorating World Environment Day (HLH) 2026, which carries the global theme ‘Inspired by Nature, For Climate, For Our Future.’ Environment Day is observed annually on 5 June. The peak of the 2026 World Environment Day commemoration will be held at the Bumi Perkemahan dan Graha Wisata Pramuka (BUPERTA) camping ground in Cibubur, East Jakarta. The event will begin with an environmental cleanup (korve) involving various segments of society as a symbol of mutual cooperation in protecting the earth. Minister of Environment Jumhur Hidayat, alongside thousands of participants from diverse backgrounds, will attend and participate, including waste pickers, public infrastructure and facilities maintenance officers (PPSU), students, university students, waste bank activists, environmental communities, the general public, local governments, state-owned enterprises (BUMN), and ministries and institutions. The presence of all these elements reflects that climate action is a shared responsibility requiring cross-sector collaboration. The 2026 HLH commemoration is also planned to be attended by the President of the Republic of Indonesia, Prabowo Subianto, who will provide directives and participate in a tree-planting action as a symbol of joint commitment to preserving environmental sustainability and strengthening climate change mitigation efforts. The theme serves as a reminder that nature is the best partner in facing the climate crisis. Through nature-based solutions, inclusive public participation, and the utilisation of innovation and green technology, Indonesia can strengthen environmental resilience while building a more sustainable future. As part of the 2026 HLH commemoration series, KLH/BPLH will launch the Gerakan Indonesia ASRI (Aman, Sehat, Resik, dan Indah — Safe, Healthy, Clean, and Beautiful) on 6 June 2026, championing the campaign spirit ‘It’s Time to Act for the Climate.’ This movement is expected to become a national momentum to instil ecological values as a lifestyle for the Indonesian people, starting from family environments, schools, and workplaces to public spaces. Through this series of activities, KLH/BPLH invites all Indonesians to take real action in protecting the environment. Simple steps such as reducing waste, planting trees, saving energy, using environmentally friendly transportation, and supporting various nature-based actions can be an important contribution to the earth’s future.
