Entering Uzbekistan, EGI Resources Acquires Hotel in Samarkand
PT EGI Resources (Indonesia) has announced a strategic step in expanding its international portfolio through an exclusive partnership with the Samarkand Government in Uzbekistan. The collaboration, formalised through the signing of an MoU on Tuesday, 7 April 2026, focuses on exploiting high economic potential in the tourism and cross-border aviation infrastructure sectors. The signing was conducted by Chairman and CEO of PT EGI Resources, Erslan Gazali Ibrahim, alongside Samarkand Governor A.M. Boboyev, and witnessed by the Ambassador of Uzbekistan to Indonesia, H.E. Oybek Eshonov. The presence of H.E. Oybek Eshonov provides a strong signal regarding regulatory certainty and full administrative support for the company’s long-term investment plans in the region. “The core of this agreement is the creation of investment synergy encompassing the development of new flight routes and enhancement of international-standard hospitality services capacity,” stated Erslan Gazali Ibrahim in a written statement on Wednesday, 8 April 2026. Operationally, EGI Resources has secured a strategic asset through the acquisition of a hotel in the iconic religious area of the Imam Bukhari mausoleum complex. The property, named Hotel Kampoeng Indonesia, is expected to become a significant new revenue stream from the international hotel management sector. This step affirms EGI Resources’ capability in executing opportunities in emerging markets, particularly in rapidly growing Central Asia. For investors, this initiative not only increases the company’s geographical asset diversification but also opens direct access to promising new economic connectivity between Indonesia and Uzbekistan.
