Entering Peak Return Flow, Police Prepare National One-Way Traffic Engineering
The Indonesian National Police Traffic Corps (Korlantas Polri) is preparing a precise national one-way traffic engineering scheme starting from the Kalikangkung Toll Gate at KM 414 up to KM 70 at the Cikampek Utama Toll Gate (Karawang).
Head of Korlantas Polri, Inspector General Agus Suryonugroho, stated that this is being done because the peak of the second Eid return flow is predicted to occur on Saturday (28/3), today. Nevertheless, he mentioned that the engineering is situational, depending on traffic conditions.
“The decision will be taken based on an evaluation of traffic developments,” he said to reporters on Saturday (28/3).
Agus said that currently, the one-way engineering is in stage two, starting from Pejagan Toll Gate at KM 263 to Cikatama Toll Gate at KM 70. For now, he said, stage two one-way is still effective for managing the homecoming flow from the East.
In addition, a contraflow scheme is also being applied at several points, particularly on the KM 70 to KM 55 stretch of the Cikampek Toll. Lane additions have been carried out gradually since Friday (27/3), adjusted to the increasing vehicle volume in the field.
Later, if there is no high surge in traffic flow, the one-way implementation will be shifted to stage three, starting from the Kendal or Batang area in Central Java.
“Overall, traffic conditions are still under control. On the Cipali section to rest areas, the situation can be managed well despite the increase in flow,” he added.
On the other hand, Agus said that his side is also tightening the enforcement of logistics vehicle restrictions in accordance with the Joint Ministerial Decree (SKB) that applies to avoid congestion.
“We urge logistics vehicles to temporarily cease operations, to give priority to the public travelling during the return flow,” he concluded.
