Entering its 54th year, Petrokimia Gresik records positive performance
Petrokimia Gresik, the agro-industry solutions company and a member of the Pupuk Indonesia holding group, marked its 54th anniversary on 10 July 2026 by reporting continued positive performance amid the dynamics of the national and global fertiliser industry. President Director Daconi Khotob stated that this positive performance is reflected in year-on-year production achievements, with 2025 output reaching 4,683,477 tonnes, an increase from 4,474,914 tonnes in 2024. The positive trend continued into the first half of 2026, with fertiliser production reaching 2,716,130 tonnes up to June, higher than the 2,431,506 tonnes recorded in the same period of 2025. “This achievement further strengthens the company’s operational performance, considering the 2026 fertiliser production target was set at 106 per cent of the 2025 target,” he said. He noted that the company’s performance and journey over more than five decades have been underpinned by its ability to continuously adapt to changes and address various challenges. This capability serves as an important foundation for the company to continue supporting national food self-sufficiency and advancing Indonesia’s agricultural sector. “Amid geopolitical dynamics, climate change, and fluctuations in energy and raw material prices that still overshadow the fertiliser industry, we continue to strengthen the company’s foundation to achieve sustainable growth, enhance competitiveness, and provide broader benefits for Indonesian agriculture,” he said. In line with its 54th anniversary theme, “Growing the Future”, the company is implementing various strategic measures, from enhancing the flexibility of production facilities and improving the reliability of raw material infrastructure to ensuring long-term energy availability and accelerating the transformation towards a more sustainable industry. One such measure is modifying the Phosphate I plant into a Phonska V plant using Flex-Phos technology, which allows a single facility to produce NPK Phonska, NPK Solid Granulation, or phosphate fertiliser, thereby giving the company greater flexibility in meeting market needs while supporting the resilience of the national fertiliser industry. To strengthen raw material supply, the state-owned fertiliser company is also constructing two sulphuric acid tanks with a total capacity of 40,000 tonnes. Once this project is completed, the company’s sulphuric acid storage capacity will increase to 100,000 tonnes. In the logistics sector, the company is building Pier A, designed to serve vessels with a capacity of up to 60,000 Deadweight Tonnage (DWT), with a loading and unloading capacity of 4 million tonnes per year. This infrastructure development is expected to improve the company’s logistics flow while maintaining the Berth Occupancy Ratio (BOR) at an optimal level. The company’s operational reliability is also being strengthened through a gas supply cooperation from the MDA-MBH field in the Madura Strait and the Ketapang Working Area in the northern waters of Madura Island, which has the potential to add approximately 30–35 Million Standard Cubic Feet per Day (MMSCFD) of gas, supporting Petrokimia Gresik’s operations until 2035. Daconi stated that strengthening the business foundation goes hand in hand with the company’s commitment to sustainability, noting that in 2025, Petrokimia Gresik was appointed as a pilot project for the implementation of Carbon Capture and Utilization (CCU) technology by the Ministry of Industry, in line with the company’s 2025–2030 decarbonisation roadmap. He emphasised that the company’s growth must always align with sustainability and the ability to deliver greater benefits to society. “Therefore, all the transformations undertaken are not only aimed at enhancing the company’s competitiveness but also at strengthening its contribution to the agricultural sector, industry, society, and the nation,” he said.
