The Indonesian government, through the National Police and regional administrations, is conducting comprehensive preparations to ensure smooth mobility of the public ahead of the 2026 Eid homecoming season. The primary focus this year extends beyond traffic engineering to strengthening road infrastructure across various regions to reduce accident rates and improve comfort for travellers.

The Traffic Police Corps (Korlantas) of the National Police has formally announced the implementation of Operation Ketupat 2026 as a humanitarian operation with the tagline “Safe Homecoming, Happy Family”.

Irjen Pol. Agus Suryonugroho, head of Korlantas, stressed that the state is present to guarantee security in terms of crime prevention whilst ensuring smooth traffic flow. Security efforts will focus on five main clusters: toll roads, national/district roads, ferry ports, places of worship, and tourist attractions.

“Homecoming is a family story, and our duty is to protect it so that people arrive safely at their destination and return home again,” said Agus in Jakarta on Saturday (28 February).

In line with this security drive, road infrastructure improvements at the regional level are being accelerated. In Kutai Kartanegara Regency, East Kalimantan, the local government is pursuing expedited repairs to the main road from Bangun City to Kenohan, which has suffered damage at several points.

The Kutai Kartanegara Public Works Office projects budget requirements of up to 100 billion rupiah for comprehensive treatment along the 9-kilometre stretch. Given limited regional budget constraints, Kutai Kartanegara Regency is implementing a collaboration scheme with private companies, particularly palm oil plantations that actively use the route. This step was taken as a swift response to public complaints to ensure that logistics and transport routes for residents remain functional and safe.

Similar strategic measures are also being undertaken by the Merangin Regency Government in Jambi. Merangin Regent Muhammad Syukur is finalising the conversion of a three-lane road route measuring 8.20 kilometres in Bangko City into a national road.
