Ensuring Rice Stock Security, DPR Commission IV Guarantees 2026 Paddy Production and Price Stability
The Indonesian House of Representatives (DPR) Commission IV has ensured that national rice stocks are in a secure condition. This assurance was provided following a working visit to the Cipinang Rice Wholesale Market (PIBC) in Jakarta on Friday (2/10/2026).
The Chairperson of Commission IV, Siti Hediati Hariyadi, also known as Titiek Soeharto, personally inspected the stock levels, supply, and market prices of rice.
She stated that monitoring results indicate that the rice supply at PIBC is proceeding smoothly. Rice from several production centres, including West Java and Central Java, is available in the market at prices deemed to be still under control.
“We are here to ensure that rice stocks are sufficient, available, and secure, and that prices remain stable and protected for the community,” Titiek said in her statement.
According to Titiek, the maintained supply condition is evident from the normal availability of rice at PIBC. Based on dialogues with traders, supplies from production centres continue to flow into the market.
“We observed that stocks are flowing smoothly. Rice stocks are available from West Java and Central Java, and the prices are good, not high,” she said.
Titiek noted that maintaining rice availability depends not only on stock levels but also on the smooth distribution from producers and Bulog (the National Logistics Agency) to consumers. Therefore, distribution effectiveness is a crucial component in ensuring the public can access affordable, high-quality rice.
“The issue of rice is not just about stock, but how we ensure that rice is distributed from producers and Bulog to the market effectively and efficiently, so that it reaches the community at an affordable price and with good quality,” she explained.
This supply condition aligns with national paddy production trends. Statistics Indonesia (BPS) recorded that paddy production from January to August 2026 reached 43.89 million tonnes of dry milled grain (GKG). Based on BPS fixed figures, this production represents a 0.07 per cent increase compared to the same period in 2025.
During the same period, rice production for public food consumption reached 25.29 million tonnes, an increase of 0.07 per cent compared to January–August 2025.
Titiek assessed that the increase in domestic production is a vital factor in maintaining national rice availability. She also expressed appreciation for the production conditions, which are capable of meeting public needs without relying on imports.
