Ensuring Justice Remains Accessible to All Segments of Society

Legal issues in the country are becoming increasingly complex. Access to justice for small communities is still far from expectations.

There is a need for legal assistance that reaches right down to the grassroots level. This is because the legal problems faced by small communities often end without adequate support. Rural communities and vulnerable groups frequently struggle to obtain accessible and affordable legal services.

These issues pose significant challenges that advocates must address to strengthen their social function.

This situation provides the backdrop for the importance of transforming the Indonesian advocate profession, from strengthening integrity and improving competencies to greater involvement in enhancing public access to legal aid.

Amid these needs, the Indonesian Advocates Association Suara Advokat Indonesia (PERADI SAI) has affirmed its commitment to promoting a new direction for the advocate profession that is more modern, adaptive, and globally competitive.

This commitment is one of the main focuses of the 2026 National Working Meeting (Rakernas) of PERADI SAI held in Jakarta. With the theme “Becoming an Advocate with Specialised Professional Competencies and Integrity in the Modern Era,” the Rakernas serves as a forum to discuss the future of the advocate profession amid changes in the legal world.

Changes are also occurring due to technological disruptions and rising public demands for more equitable justice.

PERADI SAI General Chairman Harry Ponto stated that the advocate profession can no longer rely on old patterns amid the rapid pace of modern developments. According to him, the current challenges for the legal profession are not only about cross-border legal service competition but also about maintaining professional integrity and strengthening public trust in the legal system.

PERADI SAI also encourages the emergence of advocates with specialised competencies to address increasingly complex legal challenges. The paradigm of the “all-round” advocate is no longer relevant in today’s developments.

According to Harry, amid such rapid technological advancements, the complexity of legal issues demands that advocates deepen their expertise in specific fields to provide professional and high-quality legal services.

Specialisation, said Harry Ponto, is not a form of limitation for advocates but rather an effort to deepen competencies to meet the increasingly specific needs of society and the business world.

“This Rakernas is not merely a routine organisational agenda. It is a strategic momentum to strengthen the foundation of the advocate profession moving forward,” said Harry Ponto when opening the Rakernas on Friday (8/5).
