Ensuring food security, South Jakarta KPKP traces sapu-sapu fish processing
Jakarta (ANTARA) - The South Jakarta Food Security, Maritime, and Agriculture Agency (Sudin KPKP) is tracing the processing of sapu-sapu fish as part of integrated food surveillance to ensure consumer safety. “Because we conduct integrated food surveillance every month,” said Head of Sudin KPKP South Jakarta Ridho Sosro when met in Setu Babakan, South Jakarta, on Friday. He stated that his team would deploy personnel to trace processing sites up to the production of siomay made from sapu-sapu fish. During the surveillance, they will also provide education to processing business operators and traders. It is hoped that through this capture and education, the breeding of sapu-sapu fish can be gradually suppressed. “That is the purpose of educating the public, so that society is aware of the dangers of consuming meat from sapu-sapu fish,” Ridho said. “Because heavy metals or mercury and the like do not have an immediate effect when we eat them, but after several years, conditions such as cancer and others occur,” Ridho explained. Meanwhile, the South Jakarta City Government targets capturing five tonnes of sapu-sapu fish in a population control activity in the Setu Babakan area, Jagakarsa, on Friday. The activity is a follow-up to the instructions of DKI Jakarta Governor Pramono Anung to maintain the balance of the aquatic ecosystem. After capture, the sapu-sapu fish are then destroyed by being split and buried, following Pramono’s directives to preserve the environmental ecosystem.
