Ensuring Even Energy Distribution, Pertamina Strengthens Shipping Sector
The role of sea routes in the global logistics system is increasingly vital, with more than 90% of world trade occurring through the maritime sector. For Indonesia, an archipelagic nation with over 17,000 islands, maritime connectivity forms the primary foundation for ensuring smooth and equitable energy distribution.
Through its shipping business, Pertamina Patra Niaga plays a strategic role as a virtual pipeline that channels energy to every corner of the country, both by sea and river.
The distribution of Fuel Oil (BBM) and LPG from refineries to terminals and delivery points relies on the reliability of this system to ensure that energy reaches the public equitably.
Corporate Secretary of Pertamina Patra Niaga, Roberth M.V. Dumatubun, stated that the shipping system is an invisible infrastructure, yet it has a crucial role in maintaining national energy resilience.
“More than just a mode of transportation, shipping is an invisible infrastructure that supports national energy distribution. Given Indonesia’s characteristics as an archipelagic nation, the reliability of this system is key to ensuring energy can be accessed equitably, including in 3T regions,” said Roberth in a written statement on Monday (4/5/2026).
He added that the complexity of national energy distribution demands an adaptive and reliable shipping system amid various challenges, from weather conditions to operational dynamics.
“When the shipping system runs optimally, the public does not feel its impact. But when disruptions occur, the effects are immediately felt on energy availability and economic activities. Therefore, shipping becomes a strategic element in maintaining national energy stability,” he continued.
As part of the national energy ecosystem, Pertamina Patra Niaga continues to strengthen the reliability of maritime-based energy distribution through synergies within the Pertamina Group environment. This effort is carried out to ensure that energy is channelled safely, on time, and equitably across all regions of Indonesia.
Looking ahead, Pertamina Patra Niaga is committed to continuously developing a more adaptive and resilient energy distribution system, in line with global dynamics and the energy needs of the public.
