Interior Minister (Mendagri) Muhammad Tito Karnavian inspected the people’s housing programme at Kadar Malibera Residence III housing complex in Sorong City, Southwest Papua, on Monday (27/4/2026). During the inspection, Tito was accompanied by Housing and Settlement Areas Minister Maruarar Sirait and Head of the Central Statistics Agency (BPS) Amalia Adininggar Widyasanti. They examined the condition of the buildings while engaging in discussions with residents and housing developers. On that occasion, Tito encouraged Sorong Mayor Septinus Lobat to support the people’s housing programme initiated by President Prabowo Subianto. He requested that local governments promptly implement the policy of waiving building permit fees (PBG) for low-income communities (MBR), noting that Sorong City has not yet adopted this policy. Additionally, Tito stressed the importance of a thorough understanding of the PBG and Land and Building Acquisition Duty (BPHTB) fee waiver policy for MBR, including its technical implementation aspects. After reviewing the housing area, Tito and his entourage proceeded to visit a slum settlement in Malawei Ward, Sorong City. At the site, they again checked the housing conditions and held discussions with residents. This step is part of the government’s efforts to ensure that communities, particularly in Papua, gain access to decent housing. The policy aligns with the central government’s programme to improve community welfare, especially for low-income groups.
