PT PLN (Persero) is preparing electric vehicle charging infrastructure to support the smooth travel of the public during the 2026 Ramadan and Eid al-Fitr alert period.

PLN’s Distribution Director, Arsyadany G Akmalaputri, along with her team, directly inspected the Public Electric Vehicle Charging Station (SPKLU) Centre on the Central Java section of the Trans-Java toll road mudik route.

During the visit, Arsyadany inspected the SPKLU Centre at Tegal Rest Area 275A and Batang Rest Area 343. These two locations are part of five SPKLU Centres prepared in Central Java, besides Pemalang Rest Area 319B, Krapyak Semarang SPKLU Centre, and Bawen Rest Area 438A.

Arsyadany stated that PLN is committed to providing reliable and comfortable power charging infrastructure for the public using electric vehicles during the mudik period.

“Here we are visiting Rest Area 275A, which has 10 nozzles and 8 SPKLU units. Earlier, I spoke with visitors who were charging; they felt comfortable because the charging was very easy, and in this rest area, PLN has also provided a post and lounge for a comfortable waiting area,” said Arsyadany in a statement on Sunday (22/3/2026).

Nationally, PLN along with partners has prepared 4,769 SPKLU units spread across 3,097 locations throughout Indonesia. Of that number, 1,681 SPKLU units are located on the Trans Sumatra–Java–Bali mudik route with an average distance between SPKLUs of about 22 kilometres, allowing electric vehicle users to undertake mudik journeys more calmly and comfortably.

The SPKLU Centre is designed as an electric vehicle charging point with large capacity and more complete facilities compared to regular SPKLU. This infrastructure is equipped with Ultra Fast Charging (UFC) technology that can charge much faster than regular fast charging.

In addition, the SPKLU Centre has a capacity of 10 to 20 parking slots for simultaneous charging, thus reducing the potential for long queues at crowded rest areas during the mudik season.

Other facilities include a cosy lounge or comfortable waiting room, 24-hour operational services, and simultaneous chargers (simultaneous charging) that allow one device to charge two electric vehicles at once.

General Manager of PLN Central Java Distribution Main Unit (UID), Bramantyo Anggun Pambudi, explained that PLN has taken various preparatory steps to optimise all SPKLU infrastructure during the mudik period.

“Currently, there are 305 SPKLU units spread across 192 locations in Central Java. All units have undergone checking and testing processes to operate optimally when serving the public during the Eid al-Fitr alert period,” said Bramantyo.

An electric vehicle user who was charging at the SPKLU Batang Rest Area 343, Bintang, appreciated the readiness of the facilities provided by PLN. He felt helped by the presence of SPKLU Centres at many locations.

“The charging is quite fast and the facilities are also comfortable. With SPKLU Centres like this, mudik journeys using electric vehicles become more relaxed because the charging points are more numerous and quick,” said Bintang.

Specifically to support electric vehicle travel on the Trans-Java toll road in Central Java, PLN has prepared 79 SPKLU units at 24 rest areas. This infrastructure consists of 5 Ultra Fast Charging units, 17 Fast Charging units, 29 Medium Charging units, and 28 Standard Charging units.

In addition, PLN is deploying 3,606 personnel and 2 mobile SPKLU units to anticipate emergency conditions if electric vehicle users encounter issues during their journey.

To support ease for electric vehicle users, all SPKLUs are integrated with the PLN Mobile application through the Trip Planner and AntreEV features.

Through these features, users can plan travel routes, find the nearest SPKLU location, and monitor charging queues in real-time, making mudik journeys more comfortable.

PLN has also prepared special features for 24-hour emergency services via the PLN Mobile Super App, PLN 123 Contact Centre, and WhatsApp 087 77 1112 123 to provide peace of mind for customers during the mudik period.
