Ensuring a Career: Meutya Hafid Urges Young Women Not to Be Technologically Illiterate!
Efforts to encourage more female talent into the technology world were highlighted again through the Amazon Girls’ Tech Day event held on 7 February 2026. This year, the educational activity reached more than 400 female students from 10 schools in Karawang and Bekasi, from primary school to high school levels. The expansion of participants to the primary school level has been particularly noteworthy. This step is considered important given the rapid development of digital transformation based on artificial intelligence (AI), which demands early preparedness of human resources.
Participants attended various workshops designed according to age groups, from introductions to AI and basic coding, to game development and robotics for beginners. A project-based approach was implemented so that the students not only understand the theory but also hone their critical thinking, collaboration, and creativity skills in problem-solving.
The Minister of Communication and Digital Affairs of the Republic of Indonesia, Meutya Hafid, appreciated this initiative as part of efforts to expand women’s participation in the national digital ecosystem. “In the Ministry of Communication and Digital Affairs, our target for 2030 is to build 9 million digital talents. That number is still not sufficient, and we will increase the target to 12 million by 2030. I believe we need to encourage young women, like those present at Girls’ Tech Day, to become part of our future digital talents,” said Meutya Hafid in her statement, quoted on Sunday, 13 February 2026.
“We want to continue encouraging the younger generation and are confident that more young people will understand the benefits of technology. Technology is a powerful source of empowerment, not only for young women but also for their families and communities, and ultimately for the nation. We will expand the meaning of 3T to Connected, Growing, and Secured to support them and the entire Indonesian society,” she continued.
The event also featured several female practitioners in the technology field as inspirational speakers, including the VP of Data & AI at Mekari, Cecilia Astrid Maharani, and the CEO and Founder of GameChanger Studio as well as Co-Founder of Indonesia Women in Game, Riris Marpaung. Their presence provided a real picture of career opportunities in the AI, data, and gaming industries.
