Ensure your automatic transmission fluid is changed before setting off on the homecoming journey
SOLO, KOMPAS.com – The transmission fluid in automatic cars must be monitored for both quality and quantity. Do not use the car for the homecoming journey when the fluid is depleted or of poor quality. Not only can this affect performance, but transmission components can be damaged due to suboptimal lubrication, with a risk of slipping.
Imun, owner of a workshop specialising in Ford Trucuk Klaten, said that as the car is used, the transmission fluid becomes dirty and its quality decreases, hence it must be replaced regularly.
This can cause gear shifts to become rough, jerky, or even slip. In certain conditions, it can also make the car feel less powerful.
Dirt particles and deposits in transmission fluid can cause excessive friction on the clutch, gears, and other components, which can eventually lead to permanent damage.
Damage to transmission components due to late oil changes can push repair costs up, especially if the damage is severe and requires component replacement or an overhaul.
“I recommend changing the transmission fluid in automatic cars every 40,000 km, depending on the brand of fluid used,” said Imun.
“Usually this is accompanied by a burnt smell from the transmission fluid. That smell indicates the oil is already too hot or of reduced quality,” Imun said.
So, to achieve the best performance, consumers should replace the transmission fluid in automatic cars that will be used for the homecoming journey.
