Ensure Ojek Online Safety: Police Chief Orders Regional Police to Prepare a Panic Button App
Police Chief General Listyo Sigit Prabowo has instructed regional police chiefs (Kapolda) to develop a Panic Button application to protect victims of crime on the streets. He highlighted the safety of online motorcycle taxi drivers (ojek online, ojol) from potential violence such as robbery with force, or begal. The statement was made during the online motorcycle taxi drivers and public order workers’ rally ‘Nyago Bumi Sriwijaya Aman Bae’ at the Bumi Sriwijaya Stadium in Palembang, South Sumatra on Sunday, 8 March 2026. Sigit said welfare for ojol must be prioritised.
“To improve workers’ welfare, the government is adjusting the 2026 UMP, strengthening the Job Loss Insurance Programme, and ensuring the benefits of occupational accident insurance are accessed optimally. If necessary, the Polri also provides access to Bhayangkara Hospital to support health services for workers and fellow ojol,” Sigit said.
Sigit said the Polri is developing a Labour Desk at the level of Polda and Polres. This aims to resolve enterprise and industrial relations issues quickly. “This desk has central-level capabilities so that industrial relations and employment issues can be resolved quickly and accurately,” he said.
The Police Chief also instructed Kapolda to prepare the Panic Button application to protect ojol drivers. He highlighted ojol safety from potential begal on the streets.
“Furthermore, to protect online motorcycle taxi drivers who may become victims of street crime, I ask the regional police chiefs to promptly prepare the Panic Button application to protect and ensure that fellow ojol are not victims of street crime,” Sigit said.
“On the one hand, online motorcycle taxis are expected to be strategic partners with Kamtibmas, providing information to the police rapidly using the 110 service when street crime occurs or emergencies requiring the police’s swift presence at the location,” he added.
Sigit hopes the measures will reduce street crime. The Polri is said to provide services to build partnerships with online motorcycle drivers in the regions.
“Additionally, I request that in every region facilities be built to help deliver services such as free workshops, coffee shops for online motorcycle drivers, and continue to build partnerships between the Polri and ojol in the region,” he added.
