Enrique Riquelme Set to Run in Real Madrid Presidential Election
According to sources close to the wealthy businessman, Enrique Riquelme’s plan to run in the Real Madrid presidential election is nearing reality.
Enrique Riquelme is willing to challenge Florentino Perez, who previously proposed to the Real Madrid board of directors that the general election could be held earlier.
The prominent figure from Grupo Cox is pushing ahead with his candidacy before the local deadline of May 23.
As reported by Diario AS, Enrique Riquelme has almost completed all the necessary preparations to meet the requirements and launch his campaign as soon as possible.
Riquelme also has no problem with the financial support or sporting program that he must fulfill.
He also took some time to consider the right time, talk to close colleagues and family, and make a final decision, which will be made in the next few days.
After completing his business in Mexico, he flew to Madrid to hold intensive meetings with his team to finalize all the details of the candidacy as soon as possible.
“Real Madrid is not in its best condition right now. In theory, there is an election in 2028, and it has been brought forward,” said Riquelme during a working visit to Mexico.
According to Marca, one of the requirements to run for Real Madrid President is to have been a member of the club for more than 20 years.
In addition, candidates must also provide financial guarantees equivalent to 15 percent of the club’s annual budget, a figure close to 187 million euros.
The company he leads, Grupo Cox, is valued at around 1 billion euros, and he has been a member of Real Madrid since he was a child.
