Enlightening films for Ngabuburit
BANDUNG: Ngabuburit is the Sundanese tradition of engaging in an activity to pass the last few hours before the breaking of the fast. The Common Room cine fan club on Jl. Kyai Gede Utama 8, Bandung, presents free movie shows on Wednesdays, Thursdays and Fridays from 3:00 until 5:00 p.m. during the month of Ramadhan.
Tarlen Handayani, an activist of the Common Room, said that the film program for Ngabuburit was themed "Rethinking Life". After watching the films, Tarlen said, it was hoped the audience would reflect on their life experiences.
"Fasting is a means of reflection on life to ensure a better existence in the future," she added. On the agenda for Wednesday, Oct. 19, is Magnolia (directed by Paul Thomas Anderson), followed by 21 Grams (directed by Alejandro Gonzalez Iqarritu), on Thursday, Oct. 20.
The pictures for screening on Oct. 21, 26, 27 and 28 are The Ballad of Jack and Rose (directed by Rebecca Miller), Ratcatcher (by Lynne Ramsay), 25th Hour (by Spike Lee) and My Life as a Dog (by Lasse Hallstrum). --JP
