Enjoying the Beauty of Pahawang Island, Lampung

Jakarta (ANTARA) - The scorching sun that day did not deter travellers from enjoying the beauty of Pahawang Island in Punduh Pidada District, Pesawaran Regency, Lampung.

Pahawang Island is known as one of the leading marine tourism destinations with its captivating sea views, snorkelling spots, and well-preserved coral reefs. This attraction makes the island, which is home to around 400 families, continuously popular among tourists.

Before the boat departed, travellers’ attention was drawn to the performance of local children on the beach. With their free style and without any swimming aids, they dived agilely into the water to retrieve coins or banknotes thrown by tourists.

This attraction is a rare sight in urban areas. The children seemed very skilled at diving, as if they had been familiar with the sea since childhood.

The journey to Pahawang Island begins from Ketapang Pier, Lampung. As the wooden boat slowly leaves the pier, the expanse of blue-green sea combined with the gentle sea breeze seems to make travellers forget about the scorching sun.

After sailing for about 30 to 45 minutes, a cluster of tropical islands began to appear in the distance. That is Pahawang Island, a marine tourism destination that has become one of Lampung’s favourite tourist spots in recent years.

Along the journey to the island, which is shady and far from the hustle and bustle of the city, travellers can also witness the attraction of flying fish or torani, which occasionally jump on the surface of the sea.

“These fish can fly quite far, about 5 to 8 meters,” said Tour Leader, Ical.

Pahawang Island offers a combination of marine beauty, a peaceful coastal village atmosphere, and captivating underwater scenery. Many tourists call Pahawang the “Maldives” of Lampung because of its clear and pristine sea water.

It is this underwater beauty that makes many local and foreign tourists come to enjoy the charm of its coral reefs and marine life. The relatively calm waters also make this area suitable for snorkelling activities, even for beginner tourists.
