Eni has signed three long-term agreements for the purchase of liquefied natural gas (LNG) from the South Hub and North Hub gas projects in Indonesia, which the company operates. These agreements further strengthen Eni’s global LNG portfolio whilst affirming Indonesia’s position as a strategic energy supplier for regional and international markets.

According to Eni’s official statement, both gas hubs are operated with average shareholdings exceeding 80 per cent by the company. The long-term agreements cover LNG volumes from Eni’s gas development projects in the Kutei Basin with a cumulative total volume of approximately 2 million tonnes per annum (MTPA).

The LNG supply will be channelled through the Bontang LNG facility in East Kalimantan, including through the reactivation of one LNG train that had previously not been operational in recent years. This measure is regarded as part of the optimisation of utilisation of available national energy infrastructure.

Eni states that the additional LNG volume from Indonesia will further strengthen and diversify the company’s global energy portfolio, whilst supporting the company’s target to achieve more than 20 MTPA of contracted LNG supply by 2030. The agreement also reinforces the company’s integrated growth strategy that combines upstream gas development, optimisation of LNG infrastructure, and access to global energy markets.

Furthermore, the strategy is expected to support the region’s increasing energy needs and encourage energy transition through the provision of reliable and sustainable low-carbon energy. Eni has been operating in Indonesia since 2001 and maintains a diversified upstream oil and gas business portfolio, ranging from exploration, development to production activities.

The company’s net production in Indonesia currently stands at approximately 90,000 barrels of oil equivalent per day, with the majority coming from the Jangkrik and Merakes fields offshore East Kalimantan.
