Enhancing Product Quality and Digital Consumer Protection

The development of the digital economy, supported by increasing internet penetration, has driven the widespread use of digital trading platforms as transaction media for Indonesian consumers. For business operators, the intensifying digital transactions not only open wider market opportunities but also demand continuous adaptive capacity to meet current consumer dynamics and expectations.

However, there remain business operators requiring guidance in implementing responsible sales practices. Amid accelerating digital commerce expansion, discrepancies between product claims and the quality received by consumers could potentially violate consumer protection principles whilst weakening public confidence in the digital trading ecosystem.

Recognising this urgency, the Ministry of Trade, through the Directorate General of Consumer Protection and Business Order, has synergised with Lazada Indonesia and Lampu.id to involve more than 250 business operators in strengthening digital commerce quality standards. Through the training programme “Quality and Trust: Keys to Building Consumer Loyalty and Best-Selling Products in the Market”, business operators are educated that quality is the foundation of success, as sales growth cannot be sustained without consistently built consumer trust.

“The Ministry of Trade is present to ensure a healthy, fair, and sustainable business climate. Consumer protection is not meant to complicate business operators, but to build a trusted market where honesty, compliance, and innovation go hand in hand. To this end, regulatory effectiveness can only be achieved through close collaboration with business operators to realise an orderly and equitable business ecosystem and empowered consumers,” said Moga Simatupang, Director General of Consumer Protection and Business Order.

Strengthening regulation and synergy with marketplaces represent tangible state presence in protecting Indonesian consumers. As an e-commerce platform in Indonesia, Lazada Indonesia is committed to strengthening a responsible digital trading ecosystem.

“We continue to work to deliver safe and transparent digital transaction experiences through integrated surveillance systems and clear refund policies. At the same time, we encourage business operators to improve product and service quality to deliver authentic and quality products to Indonesian consumers. This effort is part of our commitment to building long-term trust and increasing customer satisfaction,” said Budi Primawan, Vice President Government Affairs, Lazada Indonesia.

Through constructive participation, Lampu.id has taken a role in expanding programme reach through community network utilisation and publication channels to optimise initiative benefits. By engaging experts from diverse backgrounds, business operators are equipped not only to strengthen consumer protection from various digital transaction risks but also maintain quality consistency and establish creative marketing practices whilst upholding integrity.
