Englishman deported

JAKARTA (JP): The immigration office deported on Thursday an English national through Soekarno-Hatta international airport for abusing his immigration permit, an official said.

Immigration spokesman Mursanudin Ghani said that David John Eddy, who holds a limited stay permit card (KITAS) which is valid until October 2001, also violated the immigration regulations by holding more than one job without permission from the Ministry of Manpower and Transmigration.

Ghani said that based on an investigation conducted by the Bengkulu immigration office, David, whose name is now blacklisted by Indonesia's immigration authorities, was working as the financial director of PT Asia Jeanny.

PT Asia Jeanny is a foreign investment construction company which has yet to secure a fixed license for constructing or demolishing buildings from the Investment Coordinating Board (BKPM) but which began its commercial activities in 1995, according to Ghani.

"The Englishman told immigration officers that he also worked as a liaison officer for the restoration of English heritage in Bengkulu in cooperation with the Friends of Bengkulu (FOB)," Ghani said in his press statement.(01)
