England May Import Water from Norway if Drought Continues
Moscow (ANTARA) – England may import water from Norway if the drought continues, water services provider South East Water has said.
In early October, the highest-level drought warning was declared in several parts of southern England following a record-breaking heatwave this summer.
“Although importing water from Norway is included in our drought contingency plan, it would truly be a last resort in an emergency. At present, that option is not being considered,” South East Water chief executive Nick Price told The Sun newspaper on Monday.
According to the report, an emergency would arise if Ardingly Reservoir, which supplies water to south-east England, were to run dry. The reservoir is currently at 19 per cent of its capacity.
