Jakarta (ANTARA) - Joint law enforcement officers seized 128 illegal drugs and 15 bottles of alcohol (spirits) during a public order enforcement operation (pekat) in Matraman District, East Jakarta.

“Last night, Wednesday (11 March), we conducted a patrol and found a seller disguised as a cosmetics vendor, but who was actually selling illegal drugs. The number of items seized was 128 units,” said Andik Sudaryanto, head of the Civil Police Unit (Satpol PP) for Matraman District, when contacted in Jakarta on Thursday.

Hundreds of illegal drugs and dozens of bottles of spirits were being sold openly by the vendor. The seller of illegal drugs was found on Kelapa Sawit Street, Utan Kayu Selatan Village, Matraman.

Andik explained that during the patrol, officers discovered a vendor selling illegal drugs by disguising them as cosmetics.

The enforcement action was carried out jointly with the Matraman District health team, Matraman Police Station, and Matraman Military Command to verify that the items being sold indeed violated regulations.

Beyond confiscation, officers also took action against the vendor caught selling these items. The seller was required to sign a statement committing not to sell illegal drugs again.

“We had the seller sign a statement not to sell illegal drugs again. We then temporarily closed their shop,” Andik said.

Evidence from the enforcement operation will subsequently be handed over to the East Jakarta Administrative City Civil Police Unit for further processing in accordance with applicable regulations.

The operation involved various stakeholders, including the Civil Police Unit (Satpol PP) for Matraman District, TNI/Polri (military and national police), East Jakarta Social Services Agency, the Community Early Warning Forum (FKDM), Transport Agency, and the East Jakarta Health Services Agency.

The operation was also a follow-up to public reports that had gone viral on social media regarding the circulation of illegal drugs in the area.

“This is an intensive enforcement operation in Matraman District. We coordinated with TNI-Polri, the Social Services Agency, FKDM, the Transport Agency, the Health Services Agency, and we are following up on reports that went viral on social media regarding the drug issue,” Andik said.

Andik expressed hope that the circulation of illegal drugs and spirits in the Matraman area can be reduced, whilst also creating a safer environment for residents.
