The Ministry of Communication and Digital (Kemkomdigi) examined Meta and Google over suspicions of violating user protection obligations. The examination of the world’s two largest digital platforms took place at Kemkomdigi’s office on Tuesday (7 April 2026).

Kemkomdigi stated that Meta had undergone the examination and signed the minutes. Meanwhile, Google complied with the government’s second summons and underwent the examination process on the same day.

“The Kemkomdigi team posed 29 questions to delve deeper into the alleged violations of applicable provisions, particularly regarding platforms’ obligations to protect users,” said the Director General of Digital Space Supervision at Kemkomdigi, Alexander Sabar, in his statement on Wednesday (8 April 2026).

Alex emphasised that this step is part of the government’s active oversight to ensure digital platforms fulfil their responsibilities to the public. “We will further investigate the results of the examinations of both platforms,” said Alex.

Previously, Kemkomdigi had summoned Google and Meta (Facebook, Instagram, and Threads) to undergo examination regarding compliance with child protection provisions in Government Regulation No. 17 of 2025 on the Governance of Electronic System Operators in Child Protection (PP Tunas). However, both skipped the first summons. They only complied with the second summons.

It is known that this summoning is the government’s effort to ensure that digital platforms meet their child protection obligations, particularly in restricting account usage by users under 16 years old. Minister of Communication and Digital Meutya Hafid affirmed that this step is taken to keep the digital space safe for children.
