Energy Storage Technology Can Accelerate the Transition to Green Mining
Volatilitas tinggi masih berpotensi berlanjut hingga akhir Mei.
The green transformation in the mining industry is gaining attention amid increasing demands for energy efficiency and the reduction of global carbon emissions. Mining companies are now not only required to maintain operational stability but are also encouraged to adopt cleaner and more sustainable energy systems, especially in off-grid areas that still rely on conventional diesel generators.
The dependence on diesel is considered to trigger high operational costs and significant carbon emissions from the mining sector. Data from Global Energy Monitor shows that coal mines in Indonesia generate approximately 58 million tons of CO2e methane emissions per year, making Indonesia one of the largest methane-emitting mining countries in the world.
This situation is driving the development of energy storage technology solutions, including grid-forming systems, which are believed to provide a more stable electricity supply and support the integration of clean energy in mining areas.
At the Indonesia International Coal and Energy Exhibition 2026, Dogo Power introduced energy storage solutions, including grid-forming and microgrid systems, to support the concept of green mining. Dogo Power representative, Pan Pamela, said the company aims to support the transformation of the Indonesian mining industry towards lower-carbon and more efficient operations.
“DOGO Power offers green energy services throughout the operational cycle for local mining companies and supports the transformation of the Indonesian mining industry towards low-carbon and more efficient operations,” said Pan Pamela.
According to her, the company’s 4S Grid-Forming technology integrates energy management systems, power management, energy storage conversion, and battery management into a single integrated system. Unlike conventional grid-following technology, the grid-forming system can operate independently without relying on the main power grid.
The technology is said to be able to maintain voltage and frequency stability automatically, making it more reliable in supporting mining operations in remote areas.
In addition, the black start feature allows the system to resume operation within approximately two minutes in the event of a power outage, helping to maintain production continuity. Dogo Power also introduced short-blade battery technology, which is claimed to have more than 10,000 usage cycles, or about 30% higher than the industry average. The battery system is said to have an efficiency of up to 87% and is designed to withstand high-temperature and dusty conditions in mining areas.
In addition to hardware, the company is also developing an artificial intelligence (AI)-based system through Cloud EMS to predict electricity loads and solar power generation more accurately.
The AI technology is used to help optimize project energy configurations and is claimed to be able to increase project returns by up to 10 percent.
Dogo Power also mentioned that the automatic design system it developed can accelerate the configuration of hybrid solar, energy storage, and diesel systems for mining areas. The design cycle for a 100 MW project is said to be reduced from one month to just one week, while reducing capital expenditure by more than 20 percent.
Through this technology, the company believes that the mining industry can obtain three main benefits: energy cost efficiency, increased system security, and reduced carbon emissions. From an economic perspective, electricity costs in mining areas are said to be reduced from the range of US$0.28-US$0.40 per kWh in conventional diesel generators to around US$0.12-US$0.16 per kWh.
