Minister of Energy and Mineral Resources, Bahlil Lahadalia, has assured that Indonesia’s national fuel supply remains secure amid global geopolitical dynamics and tensions in the Middle East, as the government has implemented energy source diversification. According to him, this step was taken to reduce dependence on a single region while safeguarding national energy resilience. “From our total fuel needs sourced from the Middle East, it’s approximately 20 percent,” Bahlil stated during a teleconference press briefing on the Government’s Policy in Responding to Current Global Geopolitical Conditions, on Tuesday, 31 March 2026. He explained that the government has anticipated potential supply disruptions by seeking alternative sources from other countries. “When tensions arise in the Middle East, the government, under the President’s directive, seeks other supply sources to replace those from the Middle East. And Alhamdulillah, we have succeeded,” he said. In addition to diversifying imports, the government is strengthening domestic production through refinery development, including the recently inaugurated Refinery Development Master Plan (RDMP) in Balikpapan, with a production capacity of 5.6 million kilolitres of petrol and around 4.5 million kilolitres of diesel. Bahlil elaborated that Indonesia’s future energy imports will still be dominated by crude oil. Meanwhile, fuel needs such as RON 90, 95, 98, and 92 are partially met by domestic production and the rest from Southeast Asia. For LPG commodities, the government is also shifting supply sources to countries outside the Middle East, including the United States, as part of the diversification strategy. “So, in terms of supply, Insya Allah, with your prayers, it’s clear, no problems,” he stated.
