JAKARTA, KOMPAS.com – The Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources (ESDM) has prepared approximately 24,000 hectares of land in Java for a solar power plant (PLTS) project.

The project is targeted to have a total capacity of 100 gigawatts (GW).

Deputy Minister of ESDM Yuliot Tanjung stated that the land was identified jointly by the ESDM and the Ministry of Agrarian Affairs and Spatial Planning/National Land Agency (ATR/BPN).

‘The availability of land based on our joint identification between the ESDM and the ATR/BPN Ministry, in Java, is already around 24,000 hectares,’ he said at the ESDM Ministry in Jakarta on Friday, 29 May 2026.

Yuliot mentioned that the 100 GW PLTS project launched by President Prabowo Subianto involves many stakeholders across ministries and agencies.

This involvement includes the permitting process.

The government is currently preparing the legal framework to expedite the project’s implementation.

‘For the draft Presidential Regulation (Perpres), in addition to preliminary permits, we are also conducting inter-ministerial and inter-agency discussions to accelerate the regulatory basis for this 100 GW PLTS project,’ he explained.

The programme involves replacing diesel power plants (PLTD) currently operating in 3T regions (remote, outermost, and underdeveloped areas).

These plants will be replaced with renewable energy-based power plants, primarily solar power.

Priority regions include Maluku and several areas in eastern Indonesia.

‘We must synchronise this for acceleration. The President’s directive is to complete the solar power project and diesel phase-out within three years, which we are currently consolidating,’ he concluded.
