Jakarta — Indonesia’s Energy and Mineral Resources Minister Bahlil Lahadalia has assured that energy supplies to all regions of the country remain secure amid global geopolitical dynamics.

According to his statement in Jakarta on Tuesday, the government guarantees the availability of petroleum fuel, LPG, and electricity supplies remain at safe and controlled levels in accordance with national standards.

Bahlil explained that although global economic and geopolitical conditions remain shrouded in uncertainty, Indonesia has begun receiving positive indicators regarding global energy distribution routes through the Strait of Hormuz.

“We have received some positive developments with the Strait of Hormuz opening and closing policies. This means that for ships and nations that are not Israel or the United States, communication can now take place. This is actually a positive development,” said the Energy Minister.

Regarding domestic conditions, the Energy Ministry and relevant business entities continue to monitor petroleum fuel stock movements daily.

Similarly, for the electricity and household fuel sectors, there are assured to be no significant supply disruptions.

“The availability of petroleum fuel, LPG, and electricity for Indonesia are all under control and safe, in accordance with our national minimum stock standards. Regarding LPG, we also have supplies arriving at the end of this month. So, relatively everything is in order. For Eid al-Fitr, there is no problem. Coal for PLN also averages fourteen to fifteen days of stock, which is indeed the minimum national standard for us,” he explained.

Additionally, Bahlil dismissed public concerns about potential increases in subsidised fuel prices in the near term by emphasising that the government has its own calculation scheme and is committed to maintaining purchasing power after the holiday.

Bahlil also advised that other countries’ policies should not be taken as absolute reference points, as Indonesia has different fundamental regulations with different categories of subsidised and market-priced fuel.

Furthermore, the Energy Minister affirmed that fuel subsidies will remain under government control at least until the Eid al-Fitr holiday period ends, as a demonstration of the state’s commitment to ensure the economic burden does not immediately overwhelm citizens.

The government, he continued, is continuously working to maintain price stability whilst world oil prices remain within parameters that the state budget can manage.

The Energy Minister also emphasised the government’s commitment to addressing energy challenges.

“The government’s task, the leader’s task, is to solve problems. Not to avoid them. The people’s problems are the government’s primary responsibility and the people’s own responsibility. We will solve them together,” said Bahlil Lahadalia.
