Semarang – Central Java Governor Ahmad Luthfi is planning a collective cycling movement for civil servants (ASN) and officials as a step towards energy efficiency.

“Efficiency, we are awaiting the circular from the government, which insha’Allah will be issued on the 31st (March),” he said in Semarang on Monday.

However, he stated that the Central Java Provincial Government has already planned several efficiency measures for ASN.

“The Central Java Province has taken one step; we already have what is called 2,500 Energy Independent Villages. We will maximise that,” he said.

He mentioned that the Provincial Government of Central Java will also optimise the role of regional-owned enterprises (BUMD) in the energy sector.

According to him, Central Java has the BUMD Jateng Agro Berdikari (JTAB), which is involved in managing natural gas and is already in use in several locations in Central Java.

Efficiency will also target the mobility patterns of ASN, one of which is encouraging ASN and public officials to use bicycles to public transport when commuting to work.

“We have already made a plan (rencana), we have calculated it; if necessary, tomorrow on certain days all ASN will cycle, with all regents and mayors. So, to the office by bicycle; if necessary, run,” he said.

However, he reminded that the implementation of this policy is still in the calculation and study stage.

For certain days when ASN and public officials must go to the office by bicycle, he admitted he does not yet know for sure, awaiting the study results.

In addition, he said, ASN and Central Java Provincial Government officials who are going to the office will also be encouraged to use public transport.

As for the idea of implementing WFH (work from home) for ASN in Central Java, he said it is also still in the discussion stage.

He stated that so far the Central Java Provincial Government has not decided on a definite scheme and is still awaiting central guidance.

“WFH is also being studied. If not on what day (WFH), it is still being studied. Once the government issues the circular, we will immediately (implement it),” he said.
